Today the Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Leo Glavine, has introduce a revised Paramedics Act later this week in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It would replace the Paramedics Act (Bill 158), which was passed in 2005.
The legislation would come into effect on April 1, 2017, at which point paramedicine will become a self-regulated profession. We anticipate it will take that amount of time to establish the College of Paramedicine, and develop policies and protocols, etc.
Paramedics will join 21 other self-regulated health disciplines, reinforcing the high esteem that the public holds for paramedics and our shared goal of enhanced public protection.
